The settlers of Chief-Ranger Hartley hovered around the space gate. Calm reigned in the room as before every teleportation, when men mechanically realize the final preparations, result of months of training on Earth and in the station Odyssey. The planned destination had caused some fears, the first images of the exoplanet Susskind and its lush vegetation looking like the terrifying jungles of South America. But their leader knew how to find the words …

Facing the pulpit, Chief-Ranger Hartley was studying the latest satellite pictures. He repressed an oath. His doubts were well founded: the Antares Confederation had landed on the first sites of the exoplanet. He will again have to complain to Commander Lewis to speed up the movement and get reinforcements. After a few minutes of reflection, he selected four landing places. The first contingent Titan would discover the charms of Susskind in now « 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Dematerialisation ! Transfer! »

In Space Gate Odyssey, as soon as you have one or more space gate modules completely filled in your station, you send your present Settlers to the available Sites of the corresponding Exoplanets. Each site can only be occupied by one Settler. There are several types:

  • Basic spots
  • Advanced spots , for which a prerequisite related to the Exoplanet must be fullfilled.
  • Predominance spots, allowing influencing the domains importance within space stations.

Each exoplanet has its own conditions of placement, gain of influence and end of colonization. It is better to know each planet before landing …

Encyclopedia of exoplanets

Exoplanet K-1337 / Bose

Only the top of a giant mountain juts out above the sea of toxic clouds that covers the planet. Colonization goes level by level, as far as the summit.

A Settler can only be placed on a spot on a higher level if that spot is linked to 2 occupied Spots on the lower level. Once all sites are occupied, each settler yields 1 influence point and majority at each level yields 3 points.

Exoplanet YT-23 / Collins

Collins is icebound, except next to its volcanoes. These places provide underground energy and warm the area. Settlers should surround the volcanoes to survive.

The colonization of Collins is played when the six sites surrounding the four volcanoes are occupied or a majority is definitively acquired by a confederation around each of them. Only the most represented confederation at the foot of a volcano gains influence.

Exoplanet 99Z-z / Dirac

Dirac has a brightly lit side and a dark side. Dirac’s colonization starts with the brightly lit side, more accessible and livable. When enough Spots are occupied, the resources grow enough that colonization of the dark side can begin.

The advanced sites of Dirac stoke all the desires of influence but accessing one of them requires to first populate five basic sites. When all the basic sites are occupied, the first Confederation reaching the central site of the exoplanet ends the colonization, while gaining some additional influence.

Exoplanet RGZ6 / Fermi

Fermi is a planet with limited ore. It can be colonized provided that the surrounding satellites are used to mine the ore needed for technology, but Spots on each satellite are limited. Most Settlers are sent to the central planet.

The more a confederation occupies Fermi’s satellites the more it gains influence. But beware: the number of peripheral sites is limited and only settler per teleportation can be placed on the chosen satellite.

Exoplanet PK17 / Planck

On Planck, previous inhabitants built villages and roads, but they disappeared. Did they leave Planck or is their race extinct? This is Planck’s mystery. Settlers are going to occupy the abandoned living places and use the existing network of roads.

Once all sites are occupied, the influence on Planck is gained by having the largest group of linked sites. Each settler also reports influence.

Exoplanet A-6-T7 / Russell

The planet is predominantly ocean. Big storms happen on Russell. Only three or four islands are livable.

Being present on each island, especially with the majority, will bring you a maximum of influence. But the exoplanet Russell can not be colonized so easily: an island is no more accessible as soon as a certain number of settlers have landed, even if there are still free sites…

Exoplanet 54-4Z / Susskind

There are dangerous, even deadly species on the surface of Susskind. Settlers must live at the tops of big trees to escape this threat.

Susskind is probably the easiest exoplanet to colonize: the more sites you occupy, the more influence you gain.

Exoplanet LT-347 / Turing

Turing is a desert. But there is a network of channels where life is possible. You must follow them from the periphery to the center.

The race for influence on Turing can take two forms, depending on the number of Confederations in play. Either it’s a duel to be the first in the center, each starting from one end of the canal that runs through the exoplanet. Either it is a race to the central sites accessible only if the adjacent advanced ones are occupied, themselves being colonizable only when the peripheric basic sites are under control. The position of each settler on the channels yields more or less points.

Leader, architect et strategist

As you can see, Space Gate Odyssey requires both leadership skills, to best place your engineers and robots in the Odyssey station, as architect ones, to optimize moves and settlers transport within your space station, or even strategic skills, to choose the right exoplanet and the judicious sites where to land. Will that be enough to gain maximum influence? The next news will tell you more about the conditions of game end and victory.

Will you live up to the challenge proposed by Space Gate Odyssey? You’ll know it in less than two months now!

The Odyssey Command Station

« A certain excitement was beginning to reign in all the control rooms at Odyssey Station. The engineers of the various Confederations followed one another in a frenzied rhythm at the control stand to send their orders. In one corner, a chief engineer, recognizable by his suit, was talking to his team to try to anticipate the next orders of his competitors. Further on, other engineers would suddenly run and leave the room, surely to reinforce the presence of their confederation in another part of the orbital station. And what about robots that moved in a technological choreography of surgical precision to position themselves closer to the stand… »

All confederations are on the starting blocks. Their engineers are working within the Odyssey control station to develop and pilot the construction of the space stations hosting the portals, gateways to exoplanets. The race towards the new system will begin soon. You know what remains to do if you want to become the most influential leader of Space Gate Odyssey.

Some engineers

At your turn you can give instructions to expand your station, send in new settlers or deploy them to the structure.

To do this, choose one of your engineers and place it on the action stand of a room at Odyssey Station. Then perform the action as many times as you have engineers (twice per chief engineer) and robots present in the room. But the other Confederations are on the lookout. A tacit agreement between leaders authorizes each confederation to carry out the same action as you for the number of engineers and robots they have previously positioned in the same room.

Of course this arrangement also applies to you: it would be better to anticipate the blows of your opponents in order to take full advantage of the control rooms they activate in their turn. The robots are thus very useful to ensure a presence in the rooms that seem strategic for the development of your orbital station.

Some modules

The first available action  is to add a module to your station. The space worksite offers three types: space gate, airlock and Odyssey modules. All the modules are declined by field (Wildlife, Water and Energy).

  • Space Gate modules allow to send settlers groups on the Exoplanet hosting the corresponding Space Portal. As soon as a portal is filled, the settlers are immediately teleported to the sites chosen by your Confederation.
  • The Airlock modules are used to welcome new settlers sent from the Earth into your space station.
  • Odyssey modules allow you to recruit engineers or robots to increase your capacity of action in the Odyssey control station.

Once you’ve chosen a module, connect it to your orbital station by at least one corridor. Corridors may remain open to the void for a future extension however your engineers advise you not to abuse it. The newly acquired module is however not viable (ON) until a settler has come to supply energy.

You should place your modules as wisely as possible, especially Odyssey ones which once open are just empty spaces. Depending on their position in your base, they can significantly lengthen the way of the settlers from the Airlock to Space Gate Modules.

And some settlers

The second action you can do is to host settlers in your space station to speed up construction and increase your settlement capacity. The settlers arrive by the Airlock modules which contain a limited number of places. Whenever you do the action, choose an Airlock module and fill it with settlers. Make sure you have empty airlocks if you want to maximize this action.

Finally the third action you can realize is to move the settlers within the space station to activate off modules or join the space gates. But moves can only be done between adjacent modules that matches the field of the activated control room: Water, Wildlife or Energy. Every move between 2 modules counts as an action. The position of the modules then becomes important.

As soon as a settler reaches an unactivated module (OFF), he activates it and goes back to your supply. The module is then returned without changing the orientation of its corridors. If the activated module is an Odyssey one you gain the corresponding enhancement within the Odyssey station.

  • Adding an engineer in the control room of your choice
  • Enhancing an engineer to chief engineer
  • Adding a robot in the room indicated on the module

To your plans!

You thought that only Leader skills would be enough to propel you into the Governor’s chair of Space Gate Odyssey?

Think again ! You will need to demonstrate an innate sense of orbital construction to assemble a functional and optimized space station. Fortunately you have a few months left to understand the principles of modular architecture …

A boardgame in a not-so-far away galaxy…

Commander Lewis was standing with his hands behind his back facing the immensity of the interstellar void when Perkins, his comm officer at the Odyssey command station, burst into the room.

“I’m listening to you Perkins,” the old man added, without even turning around.

“My commander, here is the report of the day. The first contingent of settlers was sent today to Bose from the space gate in Zone E. They were able to settle on primary and secondary spots of the exoplanet, including a predominance spot. The construction of a space gate to Planck will begin in our space station but we risk being preceded by the Brotherhood Centaurus for the first convoy.

– Your suggestions for the future?

– New recruits should be sent to the station to replace the recent settlers sent to Fermi and Bose. The construction of a new airlock module in Area B would also speed up the sending of settlers to Susskind.

– Well. Do so. And get a robot if possible. We need to increase our action capacity in the command station.

– Yes, sir. Good night. “

The future of Humanity awaits you in Space Gate Odyssey. A system of viable exoplanets has been recently discovered and the Confederations are flocking into space to colonize it. In this 2 to 4-player development and flow management board game, you play the leader of one of these Confederations and play your influence in the Odyssey command station to send as many of your settlers as you can on these exoplanets.

The Space Gates

“You have a lot to do if you want to become the biggest leader at Odyssey, but your time is running out as the exoplanet race begins.” – ArchiCommandeur Whitley

After decades of research and technological development, Humanity is preparing to leave the Earth to colonize the discovered system. To get there, there is only one possible means of transport: space gates. For reasons related to physics and other quantum aspects, these gates can only be built in space. The Confederations have therefore embarked on the construction of their own station in orbit, equipped with space gates.

At the beginning of the colonizing era, these portals make it possible to go on one of the 3 first discovered planets. As soon as an entire contingent of settlers has joined the gate of a space station, it is teleported to the corresponding exoplanet. The landing conditions vary according to the planets and the choice of colonized spots quickly becomes strategic.

As soon as one of the 3 exoplanets is fully colonized, each Confederation gains influence according to its placement. The access to one of the 2 later discovered exoplanets becomes possible. At the end of the colonization of the five exoplanets, the stations are teleported to the Hawking planet and the influence of each Confederation is assessed. The leader of the most influential Confederation will be promoted to the rank of Governor of this new system.

The space station

One of the biggest challenges in Space Gate Odyssey is your ability to quickly develop and intelligently arrange your space station. The best you optimize the flow of your settlers to your station, then to the exoplanets, the more of them you can send to the favorable spots and thus gain Influence.

The choice of the modules, their arrangement, the distance between the airlocks and the gates are therefore essential elements. Especially since, at the end of the game, the domains of the Modules you used to build your station will bring you additional Influence points, if they are in line with the position of the domains on the Hawking planet Predominance.

Finally, you must be careful not to leave too many open corridors on the space void: this represents a real danger for your Settlers and could therefore damage your reputation.

Embark immediately for the Odyssey Command Station

Your most amazing quest starts with Space Gate Odyssey. Will you be able to take over your opponents in order to take control of the new system, or will you stay at the dock?

Decide on your destiny and claim your title of Governor in Space Gate Odyssey, which should arrive during the 1st quarter of 2019!

Ludonaute team is growing up.

We published a job offer two months ago on this website. Indeed we were looking for a rare bird who could work on many topics, and with skills we do not have. We got many applications, and some of them were very good.

But we finally made up our mind very quickly and decided to hire Bruno Chevalier, our new business manager.

A short presentation is needed, not a resume but a few words to let you know more about the person you’ll often meet at Ludonaute’s booths.

Bruno has worked in Toys industry (not Games industry, but a very close field) for 19 years, as a business manager and a sales representative. As such, he knows a lot about manufacturing constraints, factories specificity, shipping solutions, customs, standards. He also has a complete network of contacts in distribution.

On the personal side, Bruno lives in the Paris region. He has two kind daughters, aged 5 and 8, with whom he naturally plays board games.

He is a huge fan of James Bond, Star wars, Tolkien. In his spare times, he plays the game master in role playing games. Well, he is a business man in a geek’s shoes.

By the way, Bruno was already taking part in Paris festival two weeks ago, and he couldn’t prevent himself from demoing Oh Captain!

This i a new step for our small company. Our team (Cédric Lefebvre, Ian Parovel, bruno Chevalier, Jos Lefebvre et moi-même) will go on preparing you surprises and great games!

The Legends of Luma launch

Oh Captain! is available.

Nine months ago, we announced the future launch of a new collection: the Legends of Luma.

Well, today is the first step of this publishing adventure! We are very happy to tell you that the first game of this collection is now available or about to be available in various countries: USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Germany.

Oh Captain!, a bluffing game by Florian Sirieix, is the perfect game for the upcoming summer holidays. We are very proud of this first game in which we and Florian have put our heart and soul.

In Oh Captain! you are one of the six heroes of Luma’s adventure: Red, Ulrich, Lys, Siana, Moon or Nostromo.

Under the watchful eye of the Captain, you will share the loot that you have found in the Nukha’s den. Of course, your goal is to keep the best part of the shiny items for yourself. To do so, you must be smart, and you must lie at the right moment to the Captain. Unless you decide to become the new captain at your turn!

Oh Captain! is a game of luck and deception. Tricks and twists always happen during the game. The players are always involved in play. The games last about twenty minutes.

The adventure of Oh Captain! goes on on the website of the Legends of Luma:

You can suscribe to know which team you belong to. You will also be able to register the Luma games you’ll find at the back of the story booklet in the box of Oh Captain!. That will gives you  “Lums”, the Luma’s currency.

These “Lums” will be credited on their account on the website and you give you access to goodies and gifts online.

In the next few weeks, we plan to launch events, contests and give you a surprise. To get informed, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Colt Express app is available now!

We are very proud to announce you that you can now play Colt Express digital version, online or in local game, in various supports PC, Mac, pads and cell phones.

We take the opportunity of presenting the app officially on our website to tell you that the app will be sold with 40% discount during the festive season. Feel free to enjoy it and share the information with your friends.

We have developed the board game for a year to adapt it to the digital. The idea was to use this new support to introduce new game plays and  rules that wouldn’t be easy to set up in the “physical” game.

So what are these novelties?

More stories

Our first goal was to make the game more “narrative”. Each bandit has his own personality and his own story. We created these personal stories with Jordi Valbuena and Christophe Raimbault. They are presented in the app under comics. You’ll discover that every one has his own goals and background.

This narrative aspect can be found in the gameplay. Indeed the app offers a campaign for each character, with 6 scenarios each time. In these scenarios, the player is alone against the IA and must achieve some specific goals.  The game rules are then a little bit modified.

In a few words, here are some new mechanics:

  • Belle can charm another bandit. So you can play 2 bandits at the same time.
  • In Doc story, the caboose will be unhooked.
  • Tuco will learn to use the Gatling gun on the roof. He’ll shoot better than anybody.
  • Cheyenne will be spellbound by her ancestors’ amulet. She’ll be able to play any kind of actions then.

When you play the Story mode, you unlock various variants for the game, that you can use after in the Classic mode: the dynamite, the cursed amulet…

In the Classic mode, you can play local or online. As you play along, your account can be enriched with new titles form the Old West: Easy gun, Invisible man, Pyromaniac… You can also gain new cars, new features for the bandits…

A similar art but different

In order to stay close to the board game, we chose to keep Jordi’s art and give life to the bandits and the train like cardboard figures.

The user experience must be adapted to the digital support. Icons, windows, animations have been made by Frima studio, by the Canadian team who made the digital development. .

We really enjoyed working on the app with Christophe, creating scenarios, new effects and new rules. We are sure that you’ll enjoy playing it too.

See you very soon onboard!

A new expansion available

As you may have read here a few months ago or on Colt Express website, a happy event is coming at Ludonaute’s.

After months of wait and 4 days of labour in Essen, supported by a ultra-motivated and enthusiastic public, this new baby is born. He is going very well. His measurements are 15x30x7 cm (well, just the same as his big brother Horses & Stagecoach). He weights 500 g.

His parents, Christophe Raimbault, Jordi Valbuena and the whole Ludonaute team are very proud to tell you that this nice box is now for sales in stores in Europe, and in a couple of months in America.

We chose the cute name:

Marshal & Prisoners,

very representative of his strong character.

Indeed, we must admit that our whizz kid is a little bit schizophrenic. Very respectful, he can’t bear the injustice and always stand for the weak. The law and the honor are his best friends.

But this little angel is sometimes also mischievous. He loves all the shining things and he can’t stop catching everything within reach.

We also noticed his great suppleness. This allows him to go where we can’t reach him.

You can learn more about him by reading his first words here:

Colt Express family is growing once again. I hope that you’ll love  Marshal  as much as we do. He has totally change our games since he is with us and he gets on with his brother Stagecoach extremely well.

And as life is full of surprises, get ready for a big one very soon!
